About The Lady & The Rose

Welcome to my blog! Willkommen auf meinem Blog! Bienvenue sur mon blog!

Dear wanderer,

You have found yourself in my world and can’t seem to make sense of these random portals. Take a look at the navigation glossary and continue on your way! 🙂

Navigation Glossary

  • World of Costume: Anything to do with costumes, be it for dress-up or period dramas or Disney (and fantasy too)! Check sub-pages for costumed movies, TV series, music videos, promos  & commercials, as well as costumed performing arts (ballet, opera, musical theatre, stage theatre). I’ve also included royalty portrayed in film and historical fiction in this category.
  • Beauty: Make-up, skin & hair care, self-image, and more.
  • Fashion: Dresses, hats, shoes, accessories – historical to present day.
  • Travels: Tourist(y) sites & info in Canada & Europe (including the UK). Includes royal residences in Europe.
  • Lifestyle: My thoughts, opinions, activities, recommendations, and more.

What do all these topics have to do with with each other?

Although this blog is dominantly a period drama source, I believe that all my interests (costumes & costume dramas, health & beauty, fashion, lifestyle, and travel) are related. They all have to do with beauty:

  • makeup, health, and inner beauty: the beauty of making ourselves beautiful inside and out
  • costumes & fashion: the beauty of historical, theatrical, and formal clothing and accessories
  • costume dramas & historical fiction: the beauty of an imaginary world or a time we wish we’d lived in
  • philanthropy & environment: the beauty of caring for or supporting the disadvantaged and the earth in which we live
  • travel, culture, languages: the beauty of discovering new places, cultures, and languages in the world

How it all began…

This was and still is my space to perfect my writing skills. I started blogging for the Duke of Edinburgh Award – Skills section (2006 – 21 July 2013).

The blog name was created in 2013 and refers to me (the Lady) and my favourite flower (the Rose). The Rose also symbolises Christ, without whom I would not be here today.

Prior to deleting Facebook, I kept my friends updated on upcoming period dramas by sharing Enchanted Serenity’s Facebook page posts. After I deleted my account in 2013, I created my period drama pages to keep myself updated on all the past and upcoming historical/costume dramas. Now I dedicate the majority of my blogging time to my period drama posts.

Due to my TCK upbringing, I use Canadian/British English spelling and words.

Social Media:

I am only on Instagram (@ladyandtherose) and Pinterest (ladyandtherose). Please note that I am no longer on Twitter and @ladyandtherose is another user (not related).

I was a former contributor for The Glosse Posse Beauty from April 2013 – May 2014.

  1. OMG…is that pic on your home page recent? I’ve never really seen an in-focus pic of you my dear! Is it recent? You are so adorable! (Bear in mind I’m *ahem* 29…so just a bit older. I’m allowed to call you adorable. But you’re tall, aren’t you? I’m a pixie-like 5’2″.

Now I’m going to make fun of you just a little…your hair’s never been dyed. LUCKY. You didn’t inherit pre-mature grey hair like I did! (Found my first at 21…been bummed ever since.

Alright…just one more thing about the picture and that’s it. Is that your version of a chemise a la reine? I *love* it. 100% authentic gaulles have WAY too puffy sleeves. Those remind me of the Seinfeld pirate shirt episode.

So if you didn’t make it or intend to make a chemise you hit a home run anyway!

I did see you mention the Visionnaire foundation. Have you tried the straight-up Visionnaire or the Miracle Blur? You simply must! You know how much I kvetch about my skin but this works wonders.

Off to get the laundry from the drier! Have a lovely Tuesday, ma cherie! (Did I spell that right?)

    • Haha! 😀 First of all, you’re allowed to call me adorable since you’re like an older sister to me. 🙂 Secondly, yes, I’m about average: 5’7″.

My profile photo was taken 2 years ago. I went to the 100th anniversary event of a Vancouver mansion called Aberthau. I was dressed all in white – white dress and white elbow-length cotton blazer. I wasn’t aiming to create a chemise a la reine but if it looks like it, then that’s splendid! 😉 I would love my own chemise a la reine someday. As long as it doesn’t look 1980’s. :S As I was saying, there was a room where we could take photos in vintage or reproduction hats. I loved this bonnet and was very tempted to take it home with me! I wanted a small photo but WP insists on enlarging it. :S

That is correct! I have never dyed nor do I intend to dye my hair. Now, I don’t know what I will say or think when I do find my first strand of grey hair… I’d like to say I’ll accept it but maybe I’ll be too insecure and dye my hair. 0_0

I’ve tried the Visionnaire serum sample which seemed to zap away my dark spots within days. However, I can’t justify splurging on that product… I haven’t used the Miracle Blur. I’ve tried similar products that claim to minimise pores but hmph! What lies. Which one do you recommend?

Thank you for leaving a message, ma chérie! 😉
