Photos: Auschwitz I and Auschwitz II-Birkenau

As today marks the 72nd anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz, I thought I would share some photos from my visit to Auschwitz I and Auschwitz II-Birkenau in March 2009. It was -20C when I visited. There was snow everywhere and, though I was fairly bundled up, I was still cold. During and after my tour of the Auschwitz concentration camp, however, I stopped thinking about how cold I was. Our guide told us that the rocky ‘roads’ we were on were made by the prisons. They did not have shoes and if they did, their shoes barely supported their feet.
