Review: Peter Thomas Roth Best Face Forward

Just before I left for Europe, I had finally accumulated enough to redeem my Sephora 500-points gift. I decided to go with the Peter Thomas Roth Best Face Forward box since I was battling acne-prone skin and scarring at the time.

Peter Thomas Roth started his clinical skin care company in 1993. He combines ‘old Hungarian philosophies with 21st century skin care technologies to create effective skin care’. His Best Face Forward box for Sephora is meant to cleanse, peel, and detox.

Anti-Aging Cleansing Gel (travel size: $10)

This oil-free, anti-wrinkle cleansing gel has a pleasant peach scent and can remove makeup at the end of the day. Don’t get this gel anywhere near your eyes – it will sting. The cleansing gel is meant to rejuvenate, clarify, and brighten all skin types (normal, combination, oily) and conditions (including sun-damaged skin). It contains: Glycolic Acid, Salicylic Acid, peach, lemon, lime, grapefruit, arginine, linden, and white oak bark. Unfortunately, I found that the cleansing gel left my skin so tightened that I had to apply face lotion after patting my face dry. I have combination-oily skin but my skin does get a little dry during winter. This is probably better for summers and for those with oily skin. I can certainly see how it can give the appearance of removing wrinkles! (Or maybe this is best suited for those who are a little older or already noticing wrinkles.)

Cucumber Gel Mask (ca. $8 for the sample size)

The sales lady highly recommended this gel mask for its soothing and cooling properties, especially for sensitive and blemished skin. It contains: cucumber, papaya, chamomile, pineapple, sugar maple, sugarcane, orange, lemon, bilberry, and aloe. I find that it’s great to apply after any facial threading/waxing treatments. Having said that, the gel mask can also be used for after sun exposure, peels, facials, and puffy eyes. I haven’t had to use this mask very often so it should last at least 6 months, depending on usage.

FIRMx Peeling Gel (travel size: $9)

I use this once a week to remove dead skin. Make sure you cleanse your face first and pat it dry before applying the peeling gel. It doesn’t sting and you’ll know how long you’ll have to massage once the area stops producing little ‘grey balls’. This gel contains pineapple, pomegranate, and keratinase. I started using this peeling gel in February and I think I should be able to use it for another month or so.

Total worth of box: US$27

Overall value: While I was not a major fan of the cleansing gel, I felt that it was worth the 500 points that I’d redeemed it for.
