(This post is written for The Glosse Posse.)
It’s been one year and one month since I first started writing for The Glosse Posse as the ‘Beauty Expert’ and today will be my last post. It’s been a great privilege to be able to share my reviews on the GP and to keep up with blogging every week. I felt that it was time for me to hand over the reigns and to let someone else have a turn. Thank you again, Amanda and Christine, for this wonderful opportunity. 🙂
My last post is dedicated to my new favourite eyebrow pencil, Marcelle’s Duo Eyebrow-PRO Pencil. I had been looking for a new eyebrow pencil to replace my Essence eyebrow pencils (these come with a brush cap) that were very quickly shrinking to the size of my thumb. Furthermore, I’d been using Dior‘s Diorshow Maximizer as a brow gel but would usually have to wait for it to dry before filling in the brows. I wanted something long-lasting and convenient so when I read fellow Canadian beauty blogger, Beauty & the Blog‘s review on Annabelle Instaglam Brow Design + Fix, I was set on buying one for myself. Annabelle’s Instaglam Brow Design + Fix is an eyebrow pen on one end and a brush with gel on the other. Both are long-lasting and create natural looking brows. The Instaglam brow duo costs C$12.95 and comes in light-medium and medium-dark. This Canadian brand is available in just about every drugstore in Canada and is also available online to US shoppers.
Well, forgetful me walked into London Drugs (and later Shoppers Drug Mart) and somehow thought that it was a Marcelle brand that Carly from Beauty & the Blog had recommended. (By the way, Annabelle and Marcelle products are usually next to each other, as Annabelle is part of the Marcelle Group.) I was delighted to find Marcelle’s Duo Eyebrow-PRO pencil because it looked pretty similar to what Carly had. There were even three shades to choose from: blonde, brunette, and dark. Although my eyebrows are pretty dark, I always go one shade lighter so I chose brunette (turns out brunette was darker than I’d thought it would be). The Marcelle eyebrow duo usually retails for C$14.95 but it was on sale at Shoppers Drug Mart for around C$8-9. Like Annabelle, Marcelle’s products are hypo-allergenic and perfume free, and only available in Canada (but probably available for sale online to US shoppers).
The Duo Eyebrow-PRO comes with a retractable waterproof angled pencil on one end and a very lightly-tinted gel with brush (looks like a mascara brush) on the other. I can confirm that both are long-wearing and give me the most natural looking brows I’ve ever had (and I have the worst brows on the planet). I always start with the pencil first, lightly filling in the bald patches before using the brush to tame the thick brows with the tinted gel. All this takes a minute, whereas reversing the steps would take longer (a few minutes?), as the gel would need to dry first. I was particularly impressed with the eyebrow gel because it had the same hold as the Diorshow Maximizer. I’ve tried eyebrow gels Maybelline, Essence, and Dior (tinted gel) but this one from Marcelle is my favourite. Because this product is long-wearing, I find that I don’t have to reapply throughout the day. At the same time, it can also easily be removed with just about any eye makeup remover. (I usually remove the eyebrow makeup at the same time as the mascara.) This has simply shortened my makeup routine and saved my brows!
The most similar product to Marcelle Duo Eyebrow-PRO is Pixi Natural Brow Duo. In fact, aside from the product design and the price (Pixi costs US$16), they’re practically the same. Even the ingredients are very similar. Pixi’s brow duo comes in three shades: natural brown, deep brunette, and soft black. One thing I like about the Pixi Natural Brow Duo webpage are the photos of the products and the ‘swatches’ of the gels and pencils. Pixi is sold in the US and in the UK.
I hope you have enjoyed reading my beauty reviews this past year and I look forward to reading beauty reviews from the next GP beauty expert(s)!
P.S. I have now tested the Annabelle Instaglam Brow Design + Fix. The gel is much stronger than Marcelle’s and lasts longer. Still, I prefer the crayon (although the tip can break off easily) to the pen when it comes to filling in my eyebrows.
