The Beauty of Making Others Happy

(This post was written for The Glosse Posse.)

Christmas is one week away and I have a fun Gift-mas idea for us, the Glosse Girls, to do! 🙂

Gather your samples or travel-size items, such as shampoos and soaps or even mascaras and lip balms, and prepare a little package for someone feeling lonely this season. This could be someone who’s homeless, an international student or an expat, or someone who simply looks left out. Surprise them with a little present, whatever it is.  There’s nothing more rewarding than seeing the surprise and happiness on people’s faces. If these beauty items make us feel good about ourselves – however frivolous or short-term it can be – then why not share (or pass on) that feeling with others? 🙂

If you don’t have any new samples or travel-size items at your home, or if you aren’t planning on spending any more money, here’s something all of us can do on a regular basis:

COMPLIMENT. Compliment sincerely.

It could be telling people that you like:

  • the sound of their laughter
  • their smile
  • their style or outfit
  • their hair colour or style
  • their beautiful/handsome features
  • how well-behaved their child is

…and anything else that comes to mind!

Some of you, I’m sure, are very good at this. I admire that you can go up to a stranger and compliment them. It’s something I want to work on as I feel like a shy little turtle, too afraid to conquer my fears even though it could make someone’s day. I’ve often regretted not finding the courage to approach a stranger to let them know what I admire about them. It should be an easy task, something simple that can make a world of difference.

So this Christmas, go out and spread the good cheer! There’s nothing more beautiful than smiles and the knowledge that one is admired or loved. 🙂
