Oktoberfest 2012 Events in Vancouver

Oktoberfest 2012 commences this Saturday, 22 September and runs until 7 October.

Contrary to what most people think, Oktoberfest is not held during the entire month of October – just in case you were thinking about going to Munich next month (though if you go from 1-7 Oct, you’ll still get to catch the spirit then)… It is a 16-day event that takes place every year in Munich, Bavaria, from mid/late-September to the first week of October. Men wear Lederhosen (leather 3/4-length trousers) and women wear Dirndls (traditional dress which comprises a bodice, dress and apron). The blue and white that you see are the colours of the flag of Bavaria (a federal state).

If you (in Vancouver, BC), like me, do not have the means nor the availability to be in Munich or anywhere in Bavaria this year, there are 2 Oktoberfests coming up (they only coincide for 2 days in Oct so no need to wonder which one to go to – check out both if you want variety!).

I have to say, that’s not too bad (you’re getting beer and food, after all!). The only thing to pay attention to is that there are set times for each event. For instance, if you’re attending the opening night on 22 Sept, there are 2 times for you to attend: 5:30-7:30PM or 8-11PM.

Every Oktoberfest event at the Alpen Club is slightly different. On the 13th, for example, there will be a live music by Das TOURCHESTER LICH, a 40-piece band from Germany. Why not go then? 😉
