Happy Valentine’s Day!

It’s that day again, the one people either hate or love. Many of you have had your hopes lifted up, only to have your dreams smashed to pieces.

… *sigh* 😛

Though I was single most my life, I never hated Valentine’s Day. I always looked forward to holidays to celebrate to make the year more enjoyable. Of course, sometimes it was very hard, especially when I wished I had a someone to bestow lovely presents on me. Yet I made a very important decision when I was in my pre-teens or teens: I will not make myself miserable just because I’m single. So I bought myself a rose and some sweets every Valentine’s. Why should I suffer just because I had no one? Someday, my love would come along but until then, it’s no use sulking about. Now that I have a sweetheart, I don’t actually see this as some ultimate couple’s Christmas day. I’m still surprised when I receive something because I don’t expect it.

Today’s 40 Acts challenge for Lent (Day 2) is to love.

What is love?

This is the definition from The Bible that I enjoy:

Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. Love never fails.‘ – 1 Corinthians 13:4-8a

This Valentine’s, I’ve decided to start a new tradition: I’ll hand out roses to homeless women. I’ve brought 10 along with me today so I’m hoping I’ll be able to make 10 women happy on this chilly, cloudy day. It would make my day to see their faces light up with a smile. I believe every woman should have a flower on Valentine’s Day. 🙂
